Should you do pushups everyday? You may have asked yourself this question and wondered what will happen if you do. In this blog I will share with you my experience and insights about this matter.
Before bodybuilding I was only into martial arts, so different types of pushups were always on the menu. My training was functional, endurance, explosion movement training. I was supper ripped and I'm still ripped. I have strong lean muscles that helps me keep a good physique and metabolism.
Back to our question, What will happen if you do pushups everyday. My first remark is, when i stopped doing pushups and just bodybuilding with free weight and machines my muscles got a different look. They looked softer. My muscle definition was good but it was not reaching out to my expectations. When I started doing pushups again, I got back the look that i like. Strong lean muscles, by strong I mean the capacity to be effective, endurance and power wise. They look tough and hard and well defined.
Here you are my insights about this matter. If you are not training and just starting to get active, you should build up your pushups rep. You will notice pain from lactic acid at the beginning, but your body will work it out and you will have less pain on the following weeks. You can start experimenting with different types of pushups to hit your muscles from different angles. After few weeks you will notice an overall great results.
For those who hit the gym you should consider few factors. For instance if you are on a recovery day from a chest, shoulder or back workout, you shouldn't do too many pushups. As you may know, you need recovery so that your muscles grow. If you don't let your body rest, your performance will start to decrease.
Personally, I have noticed one mistake that I did in the past. Once, I did pushups at home, to have my muscles under tension for the accumulation of 10 minutes. The following day I hit the gym to workout my shoulders. I have noticed that my performance was not good. My muscles were reaching out failure quickly. So, I decided to incorporate pushups into my existing training in a way it does not impact it negatively.
So, now you have an idea about pushups and how to use them to improve your training. Pushups are very handy and effective. Later, I will add a blog on how you can use them to break your plateau if you get stuck in one. There are some body weight trainings out there that can transform your body, like the one done by Special forces and army. But you will have to build a mental strength to stay under tension. The following program was used by one of my friends. He said it is a good one. However I haven't tried it personally. Check it out
